Small Change. Big Impact. The Setup Shift I Didn’t See Coming
Small Change. Big Impact.
Settle in. Let’s talk golf.
My swings weren’t consistent.
Driver.
Irons.
Didn’t matter.
Some good.
Some terrible.
Most confusing.
I already had a solid grip.
My “V” was strong.
That part felt easy.
But the ball striking?
All over the place.
So I kept searching.
Because that’s what I do.
The Endless Quest
I watched video after video.
Then I saw one small suggestion.
It caught my attention.
So naturally…
I found three more videos to validate it.
(those who know me understand my “fact-checking” everything.)
Many family dinner table debates have prepared me well.
But I digress.
The Change
It wasn’t dramatic.
It wasn’t flashy.
It wasn’t a new swing path.
It was this:
Slightly angling my upper body away from the target.
Just a few degrees.
From the hips.
Not leaning back like I was about to start break dancing.
Just enough tilt to create structure.
That’s it.
Why It Matters
When I stood perfectly vertical at address:
• My weight felt neutral.
• My angle of attack was inconsistent.
•My contact point wandered.
When I added a slight spine tilt away from the target:
• My shoulders aligned better.
• My low point stabilized.
• My driver felt easier to launch.
• My irons compressed cleaner.
It felt athletic.
It felt balanced.
It felt… right.
The Difference in Feel
Before:
I felt stacked straight up and down.
After:
I felt coiled.
Grounded.
Ready to rotate.
That tiny shift gave my swing a starting structure.
And structure creates repeatability.
Small Changes. Big Impact.
This wasn’t a swing rebuild.
It was a setup adjustment.
A few degrees.
That’s it.
But those few degrees:
• Improved consistency
• Improved contact
• Reduced frustration
• Built confidence
And when you build confidence?
Everything else improves.
Try It
Set up to the ball.
From the hips, allow your spine to tilt just slightly away from the target.
Not exaggerated.
Not dramatic.
Just intentional.
Then swing.
You’ll feel the difference.
The Bigger Lesson
We often search for complicated fixes.
But golf rewards subtle adjustments.
Small changes.
Big impact.
The Next Shot
Your next shot doesn’t have to be perfect – just intentional.
Set it up right. Then trust your swing.
Have you ever made a tiny tweak that unexpectedly changed everything?
Drop it in the Clubhouse – I’m always fact-checking.
Real Talk. Play Better.
Effort builds results.
