MY JOURNEY

I Didn’t Start as a Golfer.
I Started as a Frustrated One.

Somewhere between slicing drives and overthinking everything…
I realized this game wasn’t just about golf.

Settle In. Let's Talk Golf.

Why I started to play golf and how I am now a golf addict and created this site for all of us

For years...

…and I mean years – my good friend Otto asked me to go golfing.
I always said no.
He told me how relaxing it was.
How fun it was.
How “real business deals are made on the golf course.”
Still… no golf.
At one point, another friend invited me to a driving range. I finally went.
I loved it.
Even though I was terrible.
Even though it was humbling.
Even though I was clearly the least athletic person holding a club that day.
And then?
I didn’t pick up a golf club again for more than 20 years.
And no… Top Golf doesn’t count

And then...

The Random Hallway Moment That Changed Everything
Fast forward.
I’m at work, standing in a hallway with my boss and a colleague. They were discussing playing golf soon when my colleague turned to me and said:
“Hey Devin – you should join us.”
I laughed and said,
“I don’t play golf… but I’ve always wanted to.”
He smiled and said their group – proudly called the “Par Tee” group was:
• Casual
• Beginner-friendly
• Understanding of bad shots
• Just out there to have a good time
That was all I needed.

The Impulse Buy...

The Impulse Buy That Changed Everything
The very next day, I walked into Golf Galaxy and bought a full beginner set.
No lessons.
No plan.
Just optimism… and a credit card.
It was a dangerous amount of confidence.

My first Round of "Golfing"...

My First Time “Playing” Golf
The following weekend, I stepped onto a 9-hole golf course for the first time in my life.
Now… I use the word “playing” loosely.

What actually happened:
  •  Missed balls entirely.
  •  Lost numerous balls.
  •  Hit balls so badly they went about 5 feet.
  •  Sliced shots into the adjacent course.
  •  Swung so aggressively off the tee that I saw sparks.
  •  Drove the cart so erratically that my passenger nearly spilled her drink in the cart.
And somehow… I couldn’t wait to do it again.

It was chaotic.
It was embarrassing.
It was unforgettable.
And it was one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had.
That round hooked me.

The Addiction

The Addiction (Let’s Be Honest)
I’m not a teaching pro.
I’m not a scratch golfer.
Not even close.
I’m just someone who got hooked on the most frustrating and addictive game on earth.
Golf humbled me immediately.
The ball doesn’t move… and it still wins.
But here’s what I didn’t expect:
I loved the challenge.
I loved that improvement wasn’t guaranteed.
I loved that progress had to be earned.
I loved that one pure shot could erase ten terrible ones.
Somewhere in there… I realized something.
This game rewards intention.

Why Bogey to Scratch Exists

Why Bogey to Scratch Exists
For months after that first round, I consumed golf content nonstop:
Fundamentals.
Tips.
Drills.
Swing thoughts.
Gear reviews.
Mental game insights.
But my scores didn’t reflect the effort.
So I decided to stop guessing.
After that first round, I went all in.
Videos.
Tips.
Drills.
Gear.
I was doing everything… except actually getting better.
Some days felt great.
Others felt like I was starting over.
And at some point I thought…
“There has to be a better way to figure this out.”

That’s when this turned into something more.
Not just playing.
Not just trying to get better.
But actually figuring it out… and documenting it as I go.

This site exists to document the real journey from bogey golf toward scratch golf – not through miracle swing fixes or “one weird trick” videos – but through:
  •  Intentional practice
  •  Smarter decisions
  •  Honest reflection
  •  And tracking progress – even when it’s messy
